Shigaraki-yaki Gold Award Handmade Japanese Clay Rice & Stew Pot
Experience the pinnacle of traditional Japanese culinary craft with the Shigaraki-yaki Clay Pot. Handcrafted in Japan and honored with a prestigious Gold Award, this coarse pottery vessel is designed for those who appreciate the art of slow cooking. Whether you are seeking the perfect bowl of fluffy white rice or a deeply flavored savory stew, this high-temperature resistant pot utilizes ancient clay-working techniques to transform your daily meals into a gourmet experience.
Key Benefits
- Award-Winning Heritage: Each pot is a testament to Japanese craftsmanship, originating from one of Japan's "Six Ancient Kilns" and recognized with a Gold Award for its exceptional design and functional excellence.
- Superior Heat Retention: The thick, porous walls of the Shigaraki clay distribute heat with incredible uniformity and retain warmth long after the flame is extinguished, allowing for gentle residual cooking.
- Enhanced Rice Texture: Unlike electric cookers, the natural mineral composition of the coarse clay interacts with the heat to produce rice that is remarkably sweet, aromatic, and perfectly textured.
- Artisanal Aesthetic: Available in timeless glazes including Ki-seto, Oribe, and Lapis Blue, the rustic "Wabi-sabi" finish brings an authentic touch of Japanese elegance to any modern kitchen.
- Versatile Performance: While optimized for the "3-Go" and "5-Go" rice traditions, this durable vessel is equally suited for simmering soups, braising meats, and creating rich, one-pot stews.

How to Use
- Soak: Rinse your rice and soak it inside the clay pot for at least 30 minutes to ensure even hydration.
- Cook: Place the pot on a gas stovetop over medium heat. Once the water reaches a boil and steam begins to vent, reduce to low heat.
- Steam: After the cooking time is complete, turn off the heat and let the pot sit, covered, for 10–15 minutes. This allows the residual heat to finish the steaming process.
- Serve: Use a wooden paddle to gently fluff the rice. The pot is designed to be brought directly to the table for serving.
Care & Safety
- Heat Sources: Designed for use on gas stovetops and in ovens. Not compatible with induction (IH) cooktops.
- Thermal Shock: To prevent cracking, do not place a hot pot directly into cold water or onto a cold, wet surface.
- Cleaning: Hand wash with warm water and a soft sponge. Avoid soaking in detergent for long periods, as the porous clay can absorb scents.
- Storage: Ensure the pot is completely air-dried before storing in a cupboard to prevent moisture retention.
