How to Use
Before its first use, this clay pot needs to be seasoned to seal the porous clay and prevent cracking. This process is called *medome*.
1. Fill the pot about 80% full with water.
2. Add a bowl of leftover cooked rice or about 1/4 cup of uncooked rice.
3. Bring to a simmer on low heat, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
4. Let it simmer for about an hour until it becomes a thick porridge.
5. Turn off the heat and allow the pot to cool completely (this can take several hours).
6. Discard the porridge, rinse the pot with water, and dry it thoroughly. Your donabe is now ready for cooking.
For regular cooking:** Always start on low heat and gradually increase the temperature. This pot is suitable for gas stovetops. Avoid sudden temperature changes.
Care & Safety
Always allow the pot to cool down completely before washing. Submerging a hot pot in cold water can cause it to crack.
Hand wash with a soft sponge and minimal detergent.
Ensure the pot, especially the unglazed bottom, is completely dry before storing to prevent mildew.
This pot is a ceramic item; please handle it with care to avoid chipping or breaking.
