Key Benefits
Superior Heat Retention:** The thick, porous clay walls distribute heat gently and evenly, cooking each grain of rice to fluffy perfection while preventing scorching.
Enhanced Natural Flavor:** The clay pot locks in moisture and the natural sweetness of the rice, resulting in a more aromatic and flavorful dish than a standard electric cooker can produce.
Authentic Handmade Charm:** Each pot is individually crafted, showcasing the unique textures and subtle variations characteristic of traditional Shigaraki pottery. Its wabi-sabi beauty makes it a centerpiece for any meal.
Versatile Kitchen Staple:** While perfect for plain white rice, this pot is also ideal for creating savory mixed rice dishes (*takikomi gohan*), hearty stews, and classic claypot recipes.

How to Use
A new clay pot requires seasoning (*medome*) before its first use to seal the fine pores of the clay.
1. **Seasoning:** Fill the pot about 80% full with water. Add a small amount of cooked rice (about 1-2 tablespoons) or potato starch. Stir, then bring to a gentle simmer on low heat for 20-30 minutes. Turn off the heat and allow it to cool completely for several hours. Discard the contents and rinse gently with water.
2. **Cooking Rice:** Add your rinsed rice and water to the pot.
3. **Heating:** Place the pot on a gas stove over medium-low heat. Bring to a boil.
4. **Simmer & Rest:** Once steam begins to escape from the lid's hole, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Turn off the heat and let the pot rest, covered, for another 15-20 minutes to allow the residual steam to finish the cooking process.
Care & Safety
To prevent cracking, always ensure the outer bottom surface of the pot is completely dry before placing it on a burner.
Avoid sudden, extreme temperature changes (thermal shock). Do not add cold liquids to a hot pot or place a hot pot on a cold or wet surface.
Allow the pot to cool down naturally before washing. Hand wash with a soft sponge and warm water. Avoid using harsh soaps, which can be absorbed by the clay.
This pot is designed for use on gas stovetops. It is not suitable for induction, electric, or oven use.
